Mountain Cove Lodge is located north of Espanola and in the heart of Ontario's wilderness. We have an incredible population of Black Bear with an extremely high success rate for our guests. All summer long, we leave beef, pork and other food at the bait stations to keep the bears in the area. In the fall when the bears are big and trying to get bigger for the winter, they visit the bait stations thus maximizing your success. We have many back-up stations so you are welcome to bring your own portable tree stand.

A bear hunting license is $155 Cnd. (may change) and an Export Permit is $35 Cnd. (may change). You also need to complete a Non Canadian Resident Fire-Arms Declaration Form if you are bringing guns into Canada. Complete the form but do not sign it until you are in front of a Canada customs agent. If you get your bear early in the week, then you have the option of buying a small game license and you can hunt for grouse, wolf or rabbit. We do not have a small game hunting package. Small game hunters are just charged the regular cottage rental rates. We do have excellent hunting for Duck, Goose, Ruffed & Spruce Grouse.

Rifles should be in the 270 to 30-06 caliber class and over when hunting Black Bear. Bows have to have a minimum draw weight of 50 lb. for Bear and Moose hunting in Ontario. A bow with a minimum 40 lb. draw weight is required for Deer hunting. Shotguns with a 50 caliber pellet can be used legally but are not recommended. It is illegal to hunt with a hand gun in Ontario.
