In Ontario, we have a much shorter growing season then in the far south. As a result, our largemouth bass do not get as big. But, the cooler water makes them fight better. Our cooler water does not have the parasites that bass in the south have; thus Largemouth Bass in northern Ontario are good to eat.
Most people come to Ontario for Walleye but there is nothing wrong with taking a couple hours off in the middle of the afternoon to catch some Largemouth or to catch a few while you are pike fishing. The Largemouth and the Northern Pike seem to like the same conditions, which is why it's rare to have a lake that has both good bass and good pike fishing.
